Stockholm 2017
Supermarket is an international art fair, run each year to provide a showcase and meeting-point for independent artist-run initiatives.
In 2017 Factory 49 took a small representative selection of works. The theme of the Fair was ‘Intimacy’ and I contributed my Kinetic Zips, which seems unerringly to invite the young and young at heart to get in amongst it!
As I explained in my artist statement, “some people, especially children, will physically immerse themselves in the vertical strips, while others will recoil if they accidentally touch them. I am interested in dichotomies like this one – between intimacy and detachment – and in the way rules will set themselves up just when you were trying to unwrite them”.
